Great day at Barcamp Saigon

November 15th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Thinking, vietnam

Just back home from my 2-month-wedding-anniversary. Tonight is really fun, I was sang a lot although my mouth have some pains. Thanks Nguyen and Khoa for sharing our sweetest moment at the Karaoke tonight. And thanks to my wife Anh Thu for always be on my side. I love you damn much, my sweetie. :)

Before our celebration, we have came to RMIT to join Barcamp Saigon, the first user-generated-content event in Vietnam. The event was great with so many interesting sessions. I met a guy who are an expert of Drupal, he’s rock. Mr Nghia, my friend and my co-worker, was presented about how to make magic with Python. And I really enjoyed the presentation about how to make a multi-touch surface with just 3 dollars.

The contents aren’t the only interesting part of Barcamp Saigon. Barcamp Saigon is a very 2.0 event, where people make contents and discuss about them. I also met some young and active boys and girls in Barcamp Saigon. They are so amazing. :). I have to say Barcamp Saigon is a very good organized event. The organizer know how to get things done, so impressed.

The good thing is I know what I have to do in my future plan. There are no time for a lazy guy like me to catch up the experts I met at Barcamp Saigon. I have to make a really plan, and do it, right after now.

A good day hah, I have some new friends and then have a good time with my closed friends. Hope Barcamp Saigon can be organize in next year, so that I can present in my own session. Time for bed, goodnight!

Web 2.0 Vietnam, let stay tune

November 9th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Thinking, Vietnamese, Web 2.0

“To be King, everyone have to fight” - Ban, Nguyen Duc.

Web 2.0 Vietnam are Zero. Everyone can say that. I have my own thousand of reasons to tell you, and my network pals too. They don’t build from people needs. They don’t have any platform to rely on. They cannot make money by their services blah blah blah…

Web 2.0's tag cloud

The point is we still need these services alive. What’s for? To keep hope alive. Web 2.0 is our hope, and if these services getting better, we will use them.

Hell yeah Vietnamese Apple iStore

November 6th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Vietnamese

“There are three kinds of Vietnamese Apple iStore. Suck, fucking suck and Future World.” - Ripped and edited by me.

Two months ago, I bought a Macbook Pro from Future World, one of Vietnamese Apple iStore. At this time, they don’t have any 4Gbs RAM Macbook Pro to sell. They was gave me an advice to buy a 2Gbs RAM Macbook Pro, and they will upgrade the RAM to 4Gbs whenever I need. The stupid me, who was stupid to believe these lies, was bought a 2Gbs RAM MacBook Pro and really happy with it.

Today, when I call to this iStore to talk to its manager that I need to upgrade my RAM to 4Gbs, he refused me. He explained that 4Gbs RAM’s cost is now too high for them to keep the deal. He said “I am sorry but you, the client, should be the one who suffer the damage, not me”.

Wow, what’s service! How can they do that? I means keep given promises and become some fucking liar? I cannot do that, and I cannot believe there are any human being can do that. Thanks Future World for teach me a lesson about Vietnamese after-sales services. What can I do now? All I can do is just write this blog to make an announcement for my friends. That’s all!

Don’t talk too much

July 20th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Thinking

This time, I am addicted to 3 Web 2.0 services, they are Evernote (don’t mistake with my wedding’s restaurant ^^), Twitter and Tumblr. Evernote is a noting services that help you to remember everything. Twitter and Tumblr are kinds of new blogging tool. The trend is: you can do your blogging anywhere. For an example, when you are travel in a bus and have no wifi, or even no space to use your lappy, you still can use your mobile to update your note to Twitter. When you update your Twitter, you can also add your update to Tumblr by using your synchronize application, what you can easy make one for yourself base on Twitter and Tumblr API systems. I think Evernote is on its way to build an API system, or plan to release it soon.

Last week, I was read an article in Bnok about Web 2.0 named “Lại nói về thị trường web 2.0“. With all of my respect, I can say that the article author doesn’t know anything about Web 2.0 and what can they do to perfect our life?. All of Vietnamese Web 2.0 startup is just focus into the teenage. Teenage certainly have their own value, but they are using all of Vietnamese Web 2.0 startup as the playground for them. It’s hardly for you to find some startup focus into another target audience, except Vietnamworks.com, or Baomoi.com. The reason is them startup don’t have any choice. The average age of Vietnamese who uses internet is between 14 to 40. The 14 to 24 years old group is the most using one, spending a lot of time on computer. Almost users using Web 2.0 for their needs to show off themselves. The rest are geeks, always do geeky way, that means they choose World Wide startup, not Vietnamese. In this situation, Vietnamese Web 2.0 must think about trying to make people attracted by some useful services instead of try to server the teenage only.

Tumblr, Twitter, Evernote aren’t the playground for people, although someone use them as the place to express themselves. Everyone uses there services because its separate utilities. Before teenage grow up, we must have another services to server them, for them needs to work, to stock their data, and collaboration. The trend of Web was changed, not only making user-centric but also making data-centric service. I can’t still find any Vietnamese Web 2.0 which I can use as a service, so, don’t talk too much until I find one. Don’t ever talk about something just start and never up.
