I have another question for you: Who is the leader of Vietnam online services?
Before answer my question, please read my three conditions to define an online service:
- The service must be the product that people can define what is it.
- The service must provide one utility that people really need.
- The service must have it own life circle.
I will not going to explain these three conditions to you, because if you don’t understand these three simple things, that means you can’t answer my question.
If you ask me this question, my answer is “My candidates are Clip.vn, Vietnamworks and Baomoi.com. But I haven’t tell who is the winner yet although they all look promise.”
The reason why I ask you this question because I don’t know what to say if my friends ask me about Vietnamese online services. What service is the best in your country? Vietnamworks.com maybe is the leader now, but the segment of users of Vietnamworks.com is large but inactive. It’s because Vietnamworks.com’s user come to this service just for job. Clip.vn is an up-rising service, they provide a publishing platform, where users can upload and share their clips. Baomoi.com is still working it’s ass off to find a way out of their current impasse, I was very impressed the way Baomoi.com’s team made their move this time. These threes are quite good, but I am not sure if I tell one of them is the leader of Vietnam online services.
So, your candidate is?
Why do we need the leader, Ban? In my opinions, ISPs and DCs (Data Center) are the leaders (j/k). Without their impressive growth, no service can survive.
@ePi : You didnt get him.
@DucBan : Seems that you’re thinking too far from others. I dont think any of Vietnamese online services would be our leader at the moment. So I have no candidate. Anyway, Clip.vn is promising and if I have to vote, I will choose it.
In China, do you think Baidu is a leader?
I would rephrase the question as: “Who is the most popular online service in Vietnam?” You can only be a leader in market segment, serves the needs of your segmented clients. So Clip.vn is probably the most popular online service in Vietnam. But Vietnamworks is the leader for online job search, Baomoi.com is the leader for online news aggregation.
And in fact, even if a service is pretty new but serves my niche needs pretty well, I don’t care if it’s a leader or not.
The time of mass market domination was over a long time ago. Now’s the time for niche domination. You can’t lead everything unless you’re a conglomerate.
Cheers,
Hi All, I think we need a leader to keep hope alive. Don’t you see our users are tired to dig into some popular but suck services? Until now, we don’t have any leader to guide us to do right thing, to educate our users that their needs can be satisfied, and to make people believe in Vietnam online services.
If you think my words above are big words, it’s OK! These words come from my big mouth. But the truth is life is going this way, and we are losing our users because they don’t believe in us anymore.
Forgive my foolishness but I would like to ask “what is the definition of ‘online services’ ? ” Base on what criteria should we use to rate such popular providers. I am looking around for some too. Pls advice.
@Ban: sorry for jump in without say hello first but question
Still planning for a cafe.
My friend, it’s hard to find a young, success n clean leader in our real life to follow but we still alive, so why do we need to find a leader in online services?
Seth Godin says each of us are leaders of our own tribes. Look nowhere else ^ ^
Industry leader: I don’t have an answer.
Market leader: All of 3 that mentioned above.
Hey Ban, great optimistic opinions. I’d suggest “sannhac” b/c of its strong community and fast growth. Will explain more in my blog post very soon
Today I ate some delicious eegs, and this is the top. My friend, it is impolite to ask this kinda question. You may just pay 2 cents for your big words, but you gain too much as far as I can see.
@ePi.Longo I think you were wrong about the term leader. Duc Ban, let me know if I right.
@Anh Hung: What do you know about the man Seth Godin?
P/S: I also gained so much information, thanks Ban.
How come these are the best while I’ve never relied on them for my everyday life? How even they are called “service providers”? Who *really* needs “finding job, uploading/sharing video, or reading online news” on a daily basis?
IMO, they just provide something we need when we have nothing else to do.
@Linda Tieu : I just wanted to say all of we, people, can survive without following a leader. But my words is out of this topic so I need to stop here
Linda Tieu: I know him through his blog, his book “the tribes”, wikipedia, and other books that mention him. I haven’t met him in person though
Before going bed, I check this blog comment. I don’t want to spam it but I’m sorry, Mr. Ban. Anh Hung’s answer to Ms.LinDa Tieu made me rofl =)) =)) =)) =)).
I think, “the leader” must have respects from its followers. Clip.vn is just a clone from YouTube, everybody known. Bao moi is a great and excellent service, but just a localized version of Google News. A leader service needs more than the number of users or profit they have. I am still finding the answer for your question.
Hi people. Actually I’m curious. Why does a single country, for example Vietnam need a country-wide “leader” in online services? The beauty of the web lies in its breaking down of boundaries, creating a global community where anyone from anywhere can interact with each other.
If Google or Yahoo or Facebook or Friendster does it well and has achieved critical mass, why distract users from these services by creating more and more startups which are similar in content and structure to distract away from a one single site that will provide the most interactivity and value to its users?
Is there a substantially difference between Vietnamese Web 2.0 users and the rest of the world? If so could any of you elaborate? Thanks!
